Wilpattu Safari Tour
Day 1: Negombo / Kalpitiya / Puttalam / Chilaw
Your Ranfer Travel Sri Lanka guide will pick you up from your hotel in either Negombo or Colombo at 4:30 am, we will travel to Dutch Bay Kalpitiya – the ancient Dutch port town has one of the finest beaches in the Puttalam region located against the backdrop of the biggest Lagoon in Sri Lanka. Kalpitiya lagoon is the best place to enjoy a thrilling Dolphin watching tour in Sri Lanka. During November to March is the best season to go Dolphin Watching off Kalpitiya. Around 7:00 am we take the boat and go to open sea looking for the Dolphins. After this adventure we proceed back via Puttalam and Chilaw. The first stop is in Puttalam, which is home to one of Sri Lanka’s largest lagoons, also called Puttalam lagoon. Here we will visit one of the saltans and then a salt factory. We travel to Chilaw. Chilaw, is a coastal fishing town with a strong Roman Catholic influence. The heart of the city offers elaborate statues to religious figures and local cardinals. Just on the outskirts of this town is Munneswaram Hindu Temple which is a prominent center for pilgrims from both Hindu and Buddhists alike. Travel to Wilpattu. Dinner and overnight at Palpatha or Similar.
Day 2: Wilpattu National Park
Visit the Wilpattu National Park (Willu-pattu; Land of Lakes) for a thrilling 4×4 safari ride at dawn.
This 131, 693 hectare park is Sri Lanka’s largest and best preserved. Due to the park being a strategic boarder during the conflict many area of the park was out of reach from tourists. This greatly aided in preserving most of the park and protected the animal habitats. This is best described as dense jungle scattered with scrub and salt grass. Elephants here are far shyer compared to its ‘tourist-friendly’ siblings in Yala making it a thrilling adventurous experience. Travelers can expect to see Leopard, Sloth Bear, Deer, Crocodiles and a range of endemic and migratory birds.
Optional – Enjoy an evening safari ride into the park.
After the Wild Life Safari we will proceed back to the hotel in Colombo or Negombo.
