The history of Ramayana

As taught in most schools throughout India and Sri Lanka of the epic love story that had been related over from generation to generation. In the poem accredited to the great Indian poet Valmiki, describes the battles, journeys, and victories made by Rama, the Indian prince in search of his abducted princess Seetha, who was brought to Sri Lanka by the demon King Ravana. Based upon this thrilling legend Ranfer Travels (Pvt) Limited has adapted the Sri Lanka Ramayana Tour.

The legend starts in Ayodhya in India and brings together a perfect blending of the South India landscape coupling its steeped history, cultural bonds and ancient spirituality ending its final battle in ancient Lanka. The reality of the tale is a myth, but, the legend is so great that it wraps India’s main annual festival Dewali around it. Since remains of sites and localities – places related to Ramayana described in the legend are so tangible. Historians for years have map the journey and helped identify possible locations described in the poem. Many of the sites are scattered around Sri Lanka today and have fairly accurate references to their credit.

These sites have been identified in relation to some of the main events that have been described in the epic tale from the place where Seetha Devi was held captive, to the location where Prince Rama defeated the demon King Ravana, the ruler of Lankapura. What’s amazing is that no one knows for sure if the epic is real or a myth, but, even today locals in that region Ramayan sites are well known, and the connection between their village and epic tale is so real to them that they will proudly talk about the historic details and facts as they as actual, the way it has passed-down over the years. Naturally, the details of the descriptions may vary from villager to villager but the pride will be shared amongst all.

Many of the locations identified will still have remnants of what locals and historians believed to have been left behind. For instance, many of the battlefields identified in the Ramayana still holds the blood stained red color soil surrounded by lighter colored soil. Herbs endemic to the Himalayan mountain range found scattered at locations believed to be the sites where soil fell when Hanuman was carried the Himalayan Mountain that contained medicinal herbs to treat and cure Seetha.

What our Explorers have to say about us

"We had an amazing vacation in Sri Lanka, with Chandi as our personal guide throughout. Chandi was very courteous and well informed on not just the history of the island, but also really interesting facts, which he shared with us. He even joined our crew on the white water rafting! Great fun and lots of laughter.... we'd love to visit again."

"Earlier this month we spent 11 days in Sri Lanka on our own private tour arranged through Ranfer Travels. It was definitely the easiest way to do things, as Mr Chandana arranged everything for us before the trip, from itinerary to accommodation and transport. Our guide for the whole trip was Mr Udesh, who was so knowledgeable about everything in Sri Lanka. This includes the ancient history, the culture, the religion, agriculture, foods, sports - everything! He was more than happy to share his knowledge with us, and made sure we had everything we needed throughout the trip. We crammed a lot into our trip, and it simply wouldn't have been possible to do or see as much, if it wasn't for the help of Ranfer travels. So if you're thinking of doing a tour in Sri Lanka, I would really recommend speaking to Ranfer Travels!. "
