Best time to travel to Sri Lanka
Climate
The best times to visit Sri Lanka are between the two main rainy seasons.
Because the island lies just north of the equator temperatures remain almost constant throughout the year. However, rainfall varies widely. Sri Lanka is affected by two main monsoon seasons, sweeping over the country at different times of year. The southwest monsoon (June-October) brings heavy rain to the south; the best time to visit this area is from late October to early March, after the monsoon has finished. The northeast monsoon (October-January) can be a good time to visit despite the rain as the countryside becomes lush with tropical vegetation. The north and east are dry but hot from June to October. The Central Highlands are much cooler throughout the year, but are very wet both during the southwest monsoon and the northeast monsoon.
