Day 02

After breakfast we will visit Jaffna City.

Jaffna is the Capital of the Northern Province of Sri Lanka. This quiet city has witness many changes in Sri Lanka’s past. With its inception dating back to the reign of the Kings that once governed Sri Lanka to the colonial era, who developed Jaffna as one of their major strong holds. All these magnificent buildings have stood the test of time and serve as a historical must-see destination. Jaffna is anchored by the Jaffna Fort which was built during the Dutch colonial period which dates back to the early 1600s.

As the town was isolated from most Sri Lankans during the recently ended civil conflict and many of us grew up never seeing it but hearing the many intriguing stories of the grandeur of this city from our elders. Our first impressions when we got there was the feel of ‘yester-year’. Time has stood still in this city, the old colonial buildings still well maintained and used, classic cars roam the city and are used as taxis, the people of Jaffna are the most refreshing, to say the least. If Sri Lanka is the nation of the smiling people, the Jaffna is its capital.

Jaffna is home to many educational institutions that were established during the colonial and post-colonial periods. It also has many commercial institutions, minor industrial units, banks, many charming hotels and boutique resorts and other government institutions such as the Jaffna Base Hospital. It is home to the popular Jaffna library that was burnt down during the civil conflict and rebuilt.

We will visit Selva Sannithi Temple , Thuraiyappah Stadium, Jaffna Library, O.L.R. Church, St. Mary’s Church, Casurina Beach, Paruthitivu, Natural Harbor, Sankiliyan Curve, Sankiliyan Manthirimanai, Kilali – Allipalai Beach, Durkaiamman Temple, Naguleswaram Temple Maviddampuram Temple.

What our Explorers have to say about us

t1

"We had an amazing vacation in Sri Lanka, with Chandi as our personal guide throughout. Chandi was very courteous and well informed on not just the history of the island, but also really interesting facts, which he shared with us. He even joined our crew on the white water rafting! Great fun and lots of laughter.... we'd love to visit again."

"Earlier this month we spent 11 days in Sri Lanka on our own private tour arranged through Ranfer Travels. It was definitely the easiest way to do things, as Mr Chandana arranged everything for us before the trip, from itinerary to accommodation and transport. Our guide for the whole trip was Mr Udesh, who was so knowledgeable about everything in Sri Lanka. This includes the ancient history, the culture, the religion, agriculture, foods, sports - everything! He was more than happy to share his knowledge with us, and made sure we had everything we needed throughout the trip. We crammed a lot into our trip, and it simply wouldn't have been possible to do or see as much, if it wasn't for the help of Ranfer travels. So if you're thinking of doing a tour in Sri Lanka, I would really recommend speaking to Ranfer Travels!. "

Their service was really amazing and Chadana and his team took really good care of us throughout the trip, always checking in on the trip and how we were doing. One of our travelling party had a birthday during the trip and they went out of the way to organise cakes and champagne. Would highly recommend Ranfer, Chadana and his team!!
