Our Ranfer Travels representative will pick you up at 6:00 am from your hotel either in Negombo and Colombo. We travel to Anuradhapura via Chilaw and Puttalam along the west coastal beach line. Our first stop is in Chilaw, a coastal fishing town with a strong Roman Catholic influence. The heart of the city offers elaborate statues to religious figures and local cardinals. Just on the outskirts of this town is Munneswaram Hindu Temple which is a prominent center for pilgrims from both Hindu and Buddhists alike. We travel to Puttalam a small but populous coastal town. Puttalam is home to Sri Lanka’s largest lagoons and with this the saltans. We will visit a salt factory here. Thereafter we will proceed to Anuradhapura, which is the first capital of ancient Lanka. From the 4th century BC, Anuradhapura was the capital of Sri Lanka until the beginning of the 11th century AD. During this period it remained one of the most stable and durable centers of political power and urban life in South Asia. The ancient city, considered sacred to the Buddhist world, is today surrounded by monasteries covering an area of over sixteen square miles (40 km²). We will visit the Sri Maha Bodhi An offshoot of the historical Bodhi tree under which Buddha became enlightened was planted in Anuradhapura in 288 BC and is the oldest recorded tree in the world today. Abhayagiri Dagaba, is one of the most sacred Buddhist pilgrimage towns and holds some of the most extensive ruins in the world. Ruwanwelisaya Stupa is considered a marvel for its architectural qualities. The Collarbone of Buddha is enshrined in the chetiya of Thuparamaya and is the first dagaba built in Sri Lanka. Lovamahapaya also known as Brazen Palace Lovamahapaya is a complex which was once a structure of its own class. Jetavanaramaya is the largest stupa in Sri Lanka. It is also the third largest structure in the ancient world. Mirisaveti Stupa was built by King Dutugamunu after defeating King Elara. A legend associates it with the relics of Lord Buddha. Lankarama is a stupa constructed by King Valagamba in an ancient place. We will travel back to your hotel in either Colombo or Negombo.
