5 Days in Sri Lanka & 4 Days Maldives

Day 01

Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage/ Dambulla Rock Fortress 

On arrival you will be met and greeted by yourRanfer Travels representative at the Colombo International Airport. Depending on your time of arrival, travel to Dambula via the Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage.

Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage is one of Sri Lanka’s most popular tourist attractions which houses over 110 elephants today that roam freely within the walls of the orphanage. Started as a safe house for elephants trapped in the wild it is today the world’s largest captive breeding centres. Visitors can feed elephants walk with them as they march to the nearby river for their daily bath time. In the evening visit the Dambulla rock fortress.

CAVE TEMPLE DAMBULLA dates from the 1st century BC houses the most impressive and venerated Buddhist cave temples in Sri Lanka. This 160metre (52 ft) rock has attracted millions of pilgrims since they were created by the formerly exiled King Valagambahu I in the 1st Century BC. He sought refuge in the caves for 14 years after losing his throne to Tamil invaders, and built the caves in gratitude after successfully reclaiming his throne in Anuradhapura.

Day 02

Polonnaruwa / Minneriya

After breakfast visit the ancient city of Polonnaruwa. POLONNARUWA was ancient Sri Lanka’s 2nd capital city. The Cholas from India that invaded the country decided to build their empire and make Polonnaruwa their capital city. In the year 1055AD a courageous and strong-minded Sinhala king from the Southern part of Sri Lanka overpowered the Indian invaders and took over the capital that later fell into the hands of Magha a notorious prince from Kalinga of India who was more intent on looting than ruling. Today the ancient ruined city of Polonnaruwa, a site that is so popular and much visited, contains ruins of the both Sinhala (Sri Lankan) and Indian culture.

In the evening, enjoy a thrilling jeep safari to Minneriya National Park.

Minnierya National Park is one of Sri Lanka’s popular wildlife reserve’s that offers visitors the diversity of the Sri Lankan wildlife experience. The park consists of mixed evergreen forest and scrub areas and is home to Sri Lanka favourites such as sambar deer, leopards and elephants. However the central feature of the park is that it is home to the largest herd of elephants in the world. Visitors can enjoy sightings of the herd most evenings around the park’s main lake.

Day 03

Sigiriya/ Nalanda Gedige/ Matale Spice Gardens/ Kandy

After breakfast check out of your hotel and proceed to Kandy. En route visit SIGIRIYA ROCK which is a fascinating hideout fortress built in the 5th century AD by Prince Kassype while he was hiding from his half brother. A visit to this site will explain why it was an excellent hideout and the majestic layout and design will fascinate any visitor. Sri Lankans’ like to think of Sigiriya as the World’s 8th Wonder. Proceed to visit Nalanda Gedige, which is an ancient Hindu Temple built in the 8th to 10th century AD. Built in the South Indian style of architecture, this monument was later used by Buddhist monks for meditation.

Visit the Matale Spice Gardens en route to learn about the captivating science that goes behind cultivating some traditional spices and ayurvedic herbs in Sri Lanka. Enjoy the evening at leisure in Kandy. Dinner and overnight stay in Kandy.

Day 04

Kandy

Enjoy the morning at leisure and explore Kandy city and shops on your own. Optional: Visit the Royal Botanical Gardens of Peradeniya. In the evening enjoy a city tour of Kandy. Kandy is Sri Lanka's last royal kingdom that fell with the colonization of the British army and is today a World Heritage site. The tour will take you to the Temple of the ‘Tooth Relic’, a magnificent golden roofed temple, Kandy Museum, Market Place and gem & jewelry shops. 

In the evening, be escorted to a performance of the energetic traditional Kandyan Cultural Dance show, and accompanied by tumultuous drumming and climaxes with the amazing fire-walking show. Dinner and overnight stay in Kandy

Day 05

Colombo

After breakfast travel to Colombo Enjoy a Colombo City Tour. Colombo is a cosmopolitan city buzzing with lights, glamour, a splendor of culinary treats to indulge in and a steep cultural heritage like no other. In a Half Day City Tour one will visit places like the Old Parliament, Colombo Fort, and Colombo’s ancient trade port in Pettah, Cinnamon Gardens, Galle Face Green, Colombo Museum, Gangarama Temple, BMICH, and more. Visit some of the popular shopping haunts in the city. Dinner and overnight stay in Colombo

Day 06

Depart to Maldives

Transfer to Colombo International airport for your flight to Maldives. On arrival your local representative will meet you at the airport and you will be transferred by speed boat to your selected resort. Enjoy your day at leisure in Maldives.

Day 07

MALDIVES RESORT – Hotel – Budget / Luxury / Meal plan –All Inclusive

Enjoy the day at leisure at your selected beach resort in Maldives on Half Board Basis (Breakfast & Dinner included)

Day 08

Day 09

After breakfast enjoy the morning at leisure. Transfer by speed boat to the airport for your flight.
